Access for visitors

We want Chapel Allerton Arts Centre to feel welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to as many people as possible. If you have any specific access requirements or questions before your visit, please get in touch - we’ll be happy to help.Northlight has a street-level entrance with no steps, making access into the building straightforward.

Ground floor access

  • The centre has a street-level entrance with no steps, making access into the building straightforward.

  • The Gallery, Café, and Blue Room are all located on the ground floor and are wheelchair accessible.

  • An accessible toilet is available on the ground floor

  • There is sufficient space to move comfortably between tables and throughout the main public areas.

  • Seating is available throughout the centre.

Northlight Conservatory, Garden & Terrace

  • The Northlight Conservatory, where many creative workshops and courses take place, is accessed via a small step down from the Gallery. A portable ramp can be provided to enable wheelchair access. Please contact us before your visit so we can have this in place.

  • The outdoor terrace and garden can be accessed either via a flight of steps or through the rear gate, which has two steps. A portable ramp can be provided to support wheelchair access. Please contact us in advance if you would like us to arrange this.

Parking & transport

  • Free visitor parking is available adjacent to the centre, with step-free access from the car park to the main entrance.

  • The centre is well served by regular bus routes between Leeds and Harrogate. The nearest bus stop is approximately a two-minute walk from the centre.

Quieter times to visit

If you prefer to visit when the centre is generally quieter, some times of day may feel more relaxed than others, although this can vary.

  • Wednesday and Friday, 3–5pm may be more suitable for those who prefer a calmer environment.

Please note that visitor numbers can vary depending on exhibitions, workshops, events, and other activities taking place. If you would like to plan your visit or check what’s happening on the day, our team is happy to help.
